How to: Sync Your Calendar

If you’re like me, you’ve experienced trouble remembering when all of the meetings are or struggled keeping up to date on changes to scheduled events. Well there’s an easier way and I’m here to share it with you! You can subscribe to the calendars for the organization of your choice and they’ll keep in sync and show up in your own calendar without any effort!
I’ll start with the 3 major email/calendar providers, Google, Outlook/Hotmail/Live/MSN and Apple. I’ll try to get more later and if you have a different one and want help, just comment!

Google

If you already have Google, it’s quite easy. Simply go to http://snocodems.org/calendar and click the little plus sign in the lower right hand corner next to the Google Calendar logo:
Next, if prompted, login to your google account. You will then be asked which calendars you want to add. Simply click Add next to the calendar you want or click Add All to get them all. If you get any errors, just repeat again. I had one calendar not import when I clicked add all but when I did it again, it only listed that missing calendar and adding it worked fine. That’s it, you’re done.
You’ll now have color coded calendars listed under Other Calendars:
If you ever want to remove the calendar, just hover over the calendar in the Other Calendars section, click the little down arrow button and click Hide this calendar from the list.

Other Providers

Google likes to make it hard for their competitors so that they can get you to switch to them and then datamine all your personal information. So doing this in Outlook.com is a bit trickier, but I’ve done most of the hard work for you. The first step is getting a list of the iCal links for each of the calendars. An iCal or “internet Calendar” link is used so that other calendars can subscribe to each other. You can find this link in google Calendar by clicking the little arrow button next to the calendar you want, clicking Calendar Settings, and then getting the link from the ICAL button. But this requires a Google account and if you already have them in google, what’s the point. So I’ve already done that for you. I tried to post them in this message, but Facebook doesn’t like the links, so I’ve posted them here at the bottom of the page!

Outlook/Hotmail/Live/MSN

Microsoft’s free email service has changed names a few times. Most know it as hotmail, but it’s now all handled from Outlook.com. Adding one of these calendars is pretty easy. Just log into your account and if you’re not at your calendar already, click the little icon in the upper left corner that looks like a Rubik’s cube and click Calendar. Now, at the top click Add Calendar, then click From Internet.
A little flyout window will pop up on the right side with two boxes. The first is where you put the iCal link. The second is where you put the name you want to call the calendar. After you’re done, click Save:
You’ll have to do this for each calendar you want to add. Most likely you’ll just add your LD and the County calendar.

Apple

Here’s their link for instructions. It looks like if you don’t have a Mac, they don’t allow you to add calendars. Gotta love Apple, anything to get you to buy one of their devices. I’ll do some more digging to see if there’s more: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202361
My advice, get a Outlook.com or Google Account, add the calendars, and then add the Outlook/Google account to your iPhone/Mac.
