Endorsements Meeting Minutes

May 19th, 2018 – Mukilteo City Hall

The only business under consideration at this special meeting was endorsements for candidates and initiatives

Following speeches, questions, and answers from the candidates, the LD began the business of moving and voting on endorsements.

There was a motion to endorse Rebecca Wolfe for PUD Commissioner. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for. The vote was unanimous in favor of endorsement. Rebecca Wolfe was endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Adam Cornell for Snohomish County Prosecutor. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for. The vote was unanimous in favor of endorsement. Adam Cornell was endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Rick Larsen for Federal Congressman, District 2. The motion was seconded. Because Congressman Larsen does not support single payer health care he is ineligible for endorsement under the LD rules. A motion was made to suspend those rules to endorse Congressman Larsen. To suspend the rules a two thirds majority of those voting would be necessary; the vote to suspend the rules did not meet the two thirds threshold. Congressman Larsen remains ineligible for endorsement.

There was a motion to endorse Lillian Ortiz-Self for State Representative. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for. The vote was unanimous in favor of endorsement. Representative Ortiz-Self is endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Strom Peterson for State Representative. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for. The vote was unanimous in favor of endorsement. Representative Peterson was endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Marko Liias for State Senator. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for and against. There was a motion to call the question. The vote to call the question was successful, with the necessary two thirds majority, and debate was closed. The vote was not in favor of endorsement. State Senator Liias was not endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Maria Cantwell for Federal Senator. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for and against. Because Senator Cantwell does not support single payer health care she is ineligible for endorsement under the LD rules. A motion was made to suspend those rules to endorse Senator Cantwell. To suspend the rules a two thirds majority of those voting would be necessary; the vote to suspend the rules did not meet the two thirds threshold. Senator Cantwell remains ineligible for endorsement.

There was a motion to endorse Collin Carlson for Federal Congressman, District 2. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for and against. The vote was not in favor of endorsement. Collin Carlson was not endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Stonewall Bird for Federal Congressman, District 2. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for and against. The vote was not in favor of endorsement. Stonewall Bird was not endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Pramila Jayapal for Federal Congresswoman, District 7. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for. The vote was unanimous in favor of endorsement. Congresswoman Jayapal was endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse Jeffrey Goodwin for Snohomish County District Court Judge. The motion was seconded. Questions were asked and answered, but no actual debate took place. The vote was unanimous in favor of endorsement. Judge Goodwin was endorsed.

There was a motion to endorse I-1631. The motion was seconded. The motion was spoken for and against. There was a motion to postpone indefinitely. The motion to postpone was spoken against and for. The motion to postpone was voted on and passed, with the necessary two thirds majority. The motion to endorse I-1631 was postponed indefinitely.
