Getting the Most Out of Our Meetings and Website

This month we will be taking a break from our regular guest speaker time and present an instructional sessions focused on helping our membership participate effectively in meetings. We will talk about our rules, give an informational overview of the parliamentary process we use to conduct our meetings, and answer questions from the audience. If you've ever wondered who "Robert" is and why we use "his rules", this is for you!

We'll also be presenting a walkthrough of our website and its new members only area and taking suggestions from the membership on how we can expand upon it.

Proposed Bylaws Amendment

Summary

Currently, our bylaws have a provision that governs the use and distribution of our membership list. This provision states that all members have a right to obtain a membership list containing the mailing address, phone number, and email address of each member. While there is a provision to allow members to opt-out, there is no provision to allow discretion over releasing this information when there are valid concerns with doing so.

This bylaws amendment allows the Chair the discretion to temporarily withhold requests and refer them to the membership for approval at the next scheduled meeting. This would amend Section 3.04 to create a new section.

Proposed Amendment

Section 3.04.03 - Referral to Membership

At the discretion of the Chair, requests to obtain the membership list may be referred for approval or rejection by a vote of the membership at the next meeting. The Chair shall provide notice to the requestor and the membership providing justification for the referral.
