Resolution Supporting VoteBuilder Equal Access to Democratic Candidates

Introduction
Currently, and in recent past election cycles, when there is more than one Democrat running for the same position, there has been difficulty for the challenger to get valuable VoteBuilder access. This gives advantage to the incumbent, in most cases, which seems unfair and undemocratic.

As a result, the 21st LD Dems Issues & Education Committee have proposed the following New Resolution, subject to review and adoption by the 21st LD membership at our March 18 Meeting:

RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EQUAL ACCESS TO VOTE BUILDER FOR ALL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES

Whereas a healthy democracy requires access for participation on all levels whether one is voting or running for office, and

Whereas the method for granting VoteBuilder access currently discourages civic engagement by setting unreasonable expectations for new candidates and unfairly benefits incumbents,

Therefore be it resolved that the 21st Legislative District Democrats believe that any candidate determined to be a bona fide Democrat, which shall be a determination left to the membership of at least two Local Party Organizations within the relevant electoral boundaries of the race, or one Local Party Organization if the electoral boundaries lie entirely within that organization, shall be granted VoteBuilder access.
